Daily Devotional for May 09, 2008

When our fathers were in Egypt,
they gave no thought to your miracles;
they did not remember your many kindnesses,
and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.
Yet he saved them for his name's sake,
to make his mighty power known.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up;
he led them through the depths as through a desert.
He saved them from the hand of the foe;
from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.
The waters covered their adversaries;
not one of them survived.
Then they believed his promises
and sang his praise.
Ps 106:7-12

Ancient Israel, those who were released from Egyptian bondage, never understood the miracles they witnessed. This was the main reason that they constantly complained and murmured, which resulted in an 11 day journey turning into a 40 year trek through the wilderness. They saw great things, but never truly appreciated what they saw. They experienced having all of their needs met, without being grateful for those provisions.

Today, we must take great care to spend less time complaining about what is wrong with our lives and much more time seeing the ways that Yahweh makes things better for us. We must acknowledge the ways that He provides for us. We must show appreciation for the protection He provides for us on a daily basis. We have to be thankful for the opportunity to know Him in ways that the world does not understand.

Most of the world today is like Ancient Israel, protesting and whining about circumstances that occur in their lives. We must strive to be different and show that difference through our worship, prayers, and most of all through the lives we live. We see and experience Yahweh’s miracles in our lives every day. Instead of complaining about the difficulties we face, we should look for the lessons Yahweh wants for us to learn so that we may grow stronger in the faith. We must truly believe in Him and sing His praise at every chance we get. We strive to be a new Israel that places full trust and faith in Yahweh, always remembering the miracles He performs for us and knowing that He will always be there for us, even when we cannot see Him.
